FAQ
• Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep lit candle in sight at all times!
• Always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface. Vessel might become hot during use, do not move burning candle.
• Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire, like loose papers, fabric, bedding, books, drapes, decorations, etc
• Keep lit candles away from drafts--open windows, air conditioners, vents, fans, etc.
• Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
• If there is any chance you might doze off to sleep, blow out your candle immediately!
• Extinguish the flame if it becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Trim the wick and check for drafts before re-lighting.
• Discontinue use when wax is 10mm from the bottom
Melt
Ensure your first light liquefies the entire top layer of wax as this creates a burn memory for your candle. If the wax burns a small “memory ring” this will cause the wax to tunnel rather than melt evenly. As Bondi Scent candles are designed to burn with maximum longevity, the first burn will take up to 1.5 hours to fully melt. Once the top layer is fully melted this is also when the candle fragrance is at its strongest.
If you are planning a dinner party- light the candle an hour before your guests arrive!
Trim
Our wicks are happiest when trimmed after each burn to approximately 10mm. Use a pair of scissors to trim the tip of the burnt wick or a mushroomed wick (should your candle have been burning for a little while) Smoke around the top of the glass is not uncommon. If your candle has been burning for a long time there may be soot left on your glass. The smoke is due to the flame and the fragrance oil burning. Once the candle has cooled, use a tissue or a damp cloth to clean the glass. You will notice a lot more smoke towards the end of your candles life due to the fragrance oil setting at the bottom of the glass. We recommend burning your candle for no more than four hours at a time.
Reuse
Don’t burn your candle all the way to the bottom, swap your candle for a new one when 10mm of wax remains. You can remove the remaining wax by placing the candle in your freezer for a few hours and discarding the wax in the bin. To clean the vessel properly you can soften any leftover wax with warm soapy water and disregard the melted wax in the bin. Please do not discard the wax in the drain in your kitchen sink as it will solidify, clog your drainpipe and pollute our waterways. Reuse your vessel after its cleaned (think paint brush holder, flower vase or storage for your collection of lipsticks!)
All- Natural Composition
Our candles are cruelty-free and vegan. We use an all-natural blend of soy and coconut wax, derived from Australian manufacturers. The wax is completely free of Paraffin and not tested on animals. (Burning Paraffin wax releases dangerous fumes, which have been linked to asthma and lung cancer.) We do not add any additives or performance enhancers to our candles.
Pure Cotton Wick
Bondi Scent candles use an unbleached, lead-free pure cotton wick. The result is a cleaner burning, self-trimming and more efficient flame for a seamless burning experience.
Free of Nasties
We work with Australia’s leading fragrance manufacturers to develop and create our scents. Our fragrances are a blend of high quality fine fragrance oils and essential oil blends. Each fragrance is formulated phthalate and paraben-free. (Phthalates are a family of industrial chemicals used to soften PVC plastic and as solvents in cosmetics that can cause harmful effects on human health)
We are passionate about making environmentally conscious decisions across our brand — from sourcing our raw materials and glass vessels to our packaging choices.
• Our vessels are made from borosilicate glass, handcrafted to a considered design that prioritises longevity and integrity long after the candle has burned. Each vessel is fully reusable, and upcycling is something we actively encourage within our community.
• All of our packaging is made from paper stock and is 100% recyclable. We encourage customers to dispose of packaging responsibly according to their household recycling guidelines, so materials can be recycled and reused.
• Across our supply chain, we aim to minimise the use of single-use plastics wherever possible. Our mailers and packing materials are made using recycled cardboard and bio-fill packing peanuts derived from corn starch, making them fully biodegradable and water soluble.
• We also use water-activated branded Kraft tape, which is biodegradable and made using natural paper with adhesive derived from potato starch.
• While we recognise that no brand is perfectly sustainable, we are committed to continuously improving our practices and making more considered choices each year, with the long-term goal of becoming an even more sustainable brand.
We spend a lot of time experimenting and perfecting our formulation in order to get the strength just right. Our products are designed to elevate not overpower your everyday. Because we use natural waxes, our scents will be slightly more subtle than the paraffin based candles on the market.
